Beddgelert itself is a charming village. Its stone buildings nestled in the surrounding mountains with two rivers converging make it one of the most picturesque places in North Wales. Over the years Beddgelert has won many awards for its beauty including 'Wales in Bloom' and 'Britain in Bloom'. It is a small and friendly village, with a full range of amenities – well stocked grocery shop, interesting gift shops, a variety of excellent places to eat and drink, and a Tourist Information Centre. Attractions in the village include the grave of Gelert (the legendary dog that saved the son of Prince Llewelyn), and the Sygun Copper Mine.

The area has many historical attractions including the walled town of Caernarfon with its fine castle. There are also other castles to be visited for example at Conwy, Dolwyddelan and Harlech. Wales is famous for its steam railways. The Welsh Highland Railway runs from Caernarfon to Porthmadog and with a station in Beddgelert. The Ffestiniog Railway and Snowdon Mountain Railway are all within easy reach.

Traditional activities include walking and climbing in the spectacular Snowdonia National Park and mountain biking in the Beddgelert Forest. Birdwatchers can visit the Glaslyn reserve where nesting ospreys can be seen. The beaches of The Lleyn Peninsular are beautiful and varied and the swimming good. The coastal path has some spectacular sections.

A range of newer activities has been developed in recent years. Surf Snowdonia Adventure Parc, a world-first inland surf lagoon, has activities at all levels. In the nearby Llechwed slate caverns is the first 4 person zip line in Europe as well as the all weather underground adventures of Bounce Below and Zip World Caverns. Velocity Zip World at Bethesda is the longest and fastest in the world! There is a High Ropes Course near Betws y Coed. Gentler activities, suitable for families, are to be found, such as Coed y Brenin Forest Parc where adults', children's and toddlers' bikes can be hired for a day.
